Ntataise – leader in early childhood development. Ntataise – meaning to lead a young child by the hand - is an independent, not-for-profit organisation founded in South Africa in 1980 to help women in disadvantaged rural communities gain the knowledge and skills to establish effective Early Childhood Development (ECD) programmes for children in their pre-school years. Today, 32 years later, through the Network of independent ECD training organisations it has established, Ntataise has reached over 10 000 women who in turn have taught and cared for approximately 400 000 children in some of South Africa’s most disadvantaged areas. Ntataise is based in Viljoenskroon in the Free State and offers accredited Early Childhood Development training programmes, courses, materials, assessment and monitoring services. Added to this, Ntataise has a strong development arm which works directly with pre-school children, parents and communities and addresses issues affecting babies and toddlers, parents and family involvement, health, nutrition, HIV/Aids and financial management. Both Ntataise Network Support operations, which is responsible for the development of the Ntataise training and development programmes and support of Network organisations, and Ntataise Free State operations are administered by and accountable to the Ntataise Trust.
