Company description
100% of the revenue generated via the sale of the artworks goes directly to the artists.
The programme has been in existence since September 2007 and has successfully managed to raise extensive revenue and exposure for the participating artists and crafters.
These exhibitors are selected after workshops have been conducted in various districts throughout the Province.
The Department of Economic Development, Integrated Craft Hub, Department of Arts and Culture, eThekwini Business Support Markets Unit, Tradepoint and Kizo Art Consultants collaborate to best identify artists and crafters with potential for inclusion in the programme.
The workshops are conducted by Njabulo Mtshali, Kizo’s curator development in collaboration with the various district managers. These are aimed at identifying artists and crafters with potential and to pass valuable skills required to successfully sell their works.
The artists are then expected to man their own stands at exhibitions that are conducted at The Gateway Theatre of Shopping four times per year. By manning their own stands the exhibitors learn much from dealing directly with the public and are able to pass on their contact details for ongoing business opportunities.
The exhibitors are provided with business cards, a website, credit card, transport, accommodation where necessary and support in terms of the closing of potential deals where required, merchandising their stand and pricing
Kizo Art Consultants has much experience in the South African arts industry with an established infrastructure that provides valuable support to the project and the exhibitors. This includes curators, a bookkeeper, driver, designer, stock controller, vehicles, 450 sq m’s of retail space at The Gateway Theatre of Shopping, and more.
Over 1,7 million people visit the Gateway Theatre of Shopping every September and over 3 million every December.
