Uva Mira is a family owned boutique winery perched on the slopes of the majestic Helderberg Mountains located in the Stellenbosch region of the Western Cape, South Africa - an area that has consistently been producing some of the best wines in the country for years.

The farm is the highest of those on the Helderberg boasting 360-degree views which include Table Mountain, Cape Point, Robben Island, False Bay and Table Bay.

Our unique high-altitude mountain vineyards located between 420 and 620 meters above sea level provide a cool climate that gives our elegant wines a distinctive character and uncompromising quality.

Denise Weedon, the widow of one of South Africa’s past mining magnates, owns Uva Mira. Matthew van Heerden works as both viticulturist and winemaker on the farm. He is dedicated to the pursuit of utmost fruit purity, quality and making site-specific wines that reflect a true sense of place.

We have been awarded numerous accolades over the years which include “Best South African Wine Producers of the Year” and “The Best Chardonnay in the World” at the 2006 International Wine and Spirit Competition where our winemaker, Matthew van Heerden, was also named as one of “The Top Ten Winemakers in the World”.
Stephen Tanzer, renowned independent USA wine critic, has highly rated our wines with scores of 92+ in his edition of the critically acclaimed “International Wine Cellar.”
Our high altitude vineyards define our site - specific wines
Uva Mira’s vineyards average between ten and twenty-five years in age and are situated between 420m to 620m above sea level. Our soils are a mixture of decomposed granite and shale.
Each vineyard has a different elevation, soil, meso - and - micro climate and exposure to the elements.
These factors make the fruit produced from each site - specific vineyard extraordinary and unique. It is this high altitude mountain vineyard diversity that gives our elegant and distinctive wines the ability to hold captivated, in every drop, their true sense of place.
Our meticulous viticulture incorporates the practices of correct canopy management, vertical shoot positioning and green harvesting. This attention to detail practices enhances the high quality of our crop along with regulate deficit irrigation to ensure concentrated flavours.
Our criterion for production is highly coloured, rich, concentrated fruit from naturally balanced low - yielding vineyards.
We have introduced “micro managing systems” in our vineyards enabling us to identify the slightest variances in our grapes from a specific site within a vineyard.
We consider our Vineyard Sites, Viticulture and Our team as our biggest asset.
