Company description
I am, Chris Herbst, the founder of CH Consulting and this is our story:
A quick background: I graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours degree. Started my accounting traineeship at a firm in Stellenbosch and after that started working as an accountant in the private sector.
In the meantime I enrolled for another business degree, but this time with a main focus on mathematics, statistics and computer science.
Then I founded CH Consulting and this where a few things started coming together.
I reaffirmed the passion that I have for business and specifically start-up and small businesses
I realised the strong link between the logic of mathematics and various fields in business. (Also that my previous degrees may have dimmed my ability to actually just use logic)
I realised that the ability to be able to understand business and accounting together with the ability to programme can change a lot of things
I realised that a major factor in fixing our economy starts with small businesses
This brings me to my actual point.
I truly have a passion to change the way that small businesses do business and to see the effect on the economy. I firmly believe that the following will get us closer to that goal:
Applying large business principles to small businesses (in an affordable manner)
Helping small businesses utilise technology
Implementing proper business and accounting systems for small businesses
Proper cash flow management in small businesses
The proper utilisation of monthly management accounts
Budgeting
A move away from the mentality that the only reason for accounting records is to pay tax
Helping small business owners understand that sometimes they have to separate themselves from operations in order to focus on strategic direction
Helping small business owners understand that their business’ finances (and bank account) should be kept totally separate from their own
