Vrede en Lust offers exclusive accommodation to discerning guests, searching for a unique and private Cape wine estate experience. Choose between the freedom of our self-catering lodges or the luxury of the Manor House. Leaving will not be easy! Old vines and fruit trees have been replaced with noble cultivars appropriate for the Simonsberg-Paarl terroir. Forty two hectares are currently under environmentally friendly, premium grape production. The vineyards are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz, with smaller blocks of Malbec and Petit Verdot. A single vineyard, limited release Chardonnay is produced from the tiny block of Chardonnay vines next to the winery. The vineyards cover a wide range of different soils and aspects which enhances the complexity of the wines. The Vrede en Lust philosophy is that a single varietal wine rarely matches the complexity and harmony of the appropriate blend. Our dry Rosé, made in the Bordeaux style, is very popular and part of the red blend range that includes traditional Bordeaux style blends as well as blends including Shiraz. A 'Cape' blend containing Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz was made for the first time in 2003. The 2004 vintage introduces a Chenin-Blanc and a botrytis derived desert wine. Open daily from 10am - 4pm.
