I am a Counselling Psychologist practising in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and provide therapy and counselling for teenagers, adults, couples and families. While my work is influenced primarily by Contextual Therapy and the belief in 'healing through meeting', I use an integrative approach to therapy which means that I am trained and experienced in a range of therapeutic approaches, each one suited to a specific individual or situation. This allows me to provide each individual, couple or family with a unique and personal therapeutic experience. I have found this approach to be effective in working with teenagers, adults, couples and families to find creative ways to explore and grow through a wide range of challenging personal experiences. These include coping with stress, depression, anxiety and trauma related to personal and relational challenges which may occur in intimate relationships and families as well as struggles in the school and work environments.
Therapy provides individuals with a safe and confidential space to explore powerful experiences and overwhelming feelings and ultimately to identify and creatively utilise their existing personal strengths in order to build positive solutions. Therapy is not only for those experiencing current challenges but also for those seeking to improve their personal effectiveness in order to achieve greater satisfaction in their personal, social or work lives.
One thing we know for sure about every individual is that they have a family or origin and over the course of their lives they have learned many unwritten rules about how relationships and families should work. Therapy can also play an important part in the process of exploring and resolving deep personal struggles which almost always have some root in family legacies and childhood experiences. The ways in which we have learned to protect ourselves in relationships can often be the same things that cause us pain.
