Hillston Farm is an AA Highly Recommended Karoo Farm providing accommodation in a quaint ironstone cottage, built in the late 1800’s or in our remote country house. Meals are served in the farmhouse dining room or al fresco in the expansive garden. You can also do your own cooking in your fully equipped kitchen or enjoy a braai in the lapa or outside.
Hillston also offers catering for weddings, conferences, special events and tour groups. The kitchen caters for up to 120 people. Contact us for rates and menus.
You can also take home some Karoo cooking secrets: we offer hands on Karoo cooking classes or demonstrations by our very own Cordon Bleu trained chef.

Comfortable accommodation is offered at Hillston Farm in a 3-Star Graded (Tourism Grading Council of South Africa) and AA Highly Recommended Ironstone cottage built in the late 1800's. The cottage can sleep up to 6 people in 3 separate bedrooms. It has one full bathroom with a separate toilet, a fully equipped kitchen and under-floor heating in the lounge/dining area for the cold winter months. After a wonderful day's hiking on the farm guests can enjoy a braai/barbecue in the Anglo-Boer War blockhouse or simply under the stars.The cottage has a lovely ‘stoep’ where guests can enjoy total relaxation. Lounge back on the bench and watch the brilliant sunset in the west, listen to the blue cranes fly in to Vermaak Dam for the evening and the guinea-fowl marking the end of the day. Or sip a warm cup of tea in the early morning and breathe in the fresh morning air while listening to all the birds chirping as yet another awesome day on Hillston Farm awakes.
There is something magical about the vast semi-desert region known simply as the Karoo. Despite its frequent droughts and extremes of climate, the Karoo nurtures life in great abundance and its plains teem with animals of every description. After the seasonal rains the recovery of the veld is miraculous: frogs chorus in full throat and a carpet of brilliant flowers spreads dramatically over the once barren wasteland.
