Arup's approach to design is about width, breadth and depth – from perfecting the tiniest details of a building to managing complex multidisciplinary projects and developing living and working spaces for whole communities.

The firm's expertise ranges from optimising the passive performance of a building envelope and skeleton to designing the active systems that create an efficient, safe, comfortable environment for occupants.

Company description
In the past decade, Arup has contributed to the growth of prestigious holiday accommodation in the form of luxury apartment buildings such as The Pearls in Umhlanga, and many of the mixed-use developments now springing up around city and province.
Arup has provided consultancy services on a number of aspects of the 2010 Soccer World Cup; and in Durban has been appointed to lead the planning and implementation of the Transportation Operational Plan for the city.
Arup are the interchange design architects on the new commuter station, which forms part of an existing rail network and is one of the main feeder stations into the new Moses Mabhida Stadium which will be hosting many of the events.
Arup's building design specialists all over the world are engaged in research and analysis to make buildings more comfortable for their occupants, more sustainable for the planet, function optimally and provide better returns.
Increasingly the firm's designers are focused on the lifecycle performance of the built environment. Analysing operational data will in time be used to improve all phases of a building’s performance – from concept to construction, through operation, adaptation and retrofitting to final decommissioning and recycling.
Arup has worked with a range of clients to deliver innovative solutions to world-leading infrastructure design projects across the globe. These clients rely on Arup's breadth of skills, experience and excellence in major project delivery.
Whether on High Speed 1 in the UK, Stonecutters Bridge in Hong Kong - one of the world's longest spans for a cable-stayed bridge, protecting the water supply for Las Vegas through work at Lake Mead, or coordinating the successful implementation of Australia's largest public infrastructure programme, the South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Programme (SEQIPP), Arup continues to lead the industry.
