Company description
Zavick graduated in 1995 from East London Technical College with a major in printmaking and minors in painting and sculpting. He coined the term Quiltage in 2003 to describe his works fusing fabric and painting. In early 2005, he collaborated with German clothing designer Annette Görtz, where he began blurring the line dividing art and fashion Zavick received recycled jeans from South African men’s designer Shakur Olla and Italian design label Dondup. Zavick worked with rejected jeans as a resident artist in the Dondup men’s department. [At the time, the human genome was googled more than porn—Zavick connected human genes to human jeans.] Zavick heard a dog bark while working and the tagline “Jeans, man’s best friend” along with a dog image was born. Later the dog image was developed further and eventually became Supa’dog. Today, Zavick lives in Cape Town fusing fashion and art by recycling jeans and other fabric which he is given or discovers in the streets of South Africa. Zavick does not separate his life from his artwork and considers himself a living performance piece.
