Description
Mark Kretzmann completed his matric at Riverside High school in Gauteng followed by compulsory military service in Namibia. Mark received a bursary from the now defunct SAR&H, (South African Railways & Harbours), to study his National Diploma in Horticulture at Cape Technikon. After working back his bursary, largely with the Environmental Maintenance Division of SAR&H, Mark worked for several landscaping businesses, including Green Acres Landscaping, a multiple SALI, (South African Landscape Institute), award winning company, where he gained experience in managing large project installations.Mark pursued his studies further and completed a B Sc with majors in Botany and Environmental Science at UCT and completed a bridging year of studying towards a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture.
In addition, Mark holds a certificate in Permaculture Design, undertaken at Thlolego Training Centre near Rustenburg.

From an early age, Mark has had a fascination with Nature in all its’ varying forms and besides having an intimate plant knowledge, he is familiar with most things that crawl, slither, fly, hop or swim, and their inter-relationships. He has worked as an assistant field researcher on species ranging from bats to armadillo lizards. Mark is particularly passionate about creating wildlife gardens and environments which promote bio-diversity and offer ‘urban refuge’ to the variety of garden creatures, currently under unprecedented environmental threat.Mark started a retail Nursery in Kalk Bay in 1994, from which he ran a landscaping business called Living Gardens.
