Company description

The restaurant is owned and run by Luca and Moyah Merola. Luca is the son of the late Cherie and Luigi Merola who opened the doors in 1999. Evidence of the next-generation owners is seen in the new open plan front, additional outside seating and the Espresso bar. Although the aesthetics have changed, the food is still the same – traditional home cooked Italian dishes. The grills also include the Fillet Luigi which is made with Luigi’s secret sauce. As well as a selection of pizzas and pastas, including the popular bacon, avo and feta California pizza and the vongole or de-shelled clams pasta, seasonal specials are also on offer such as a grilled calamari salad for something light to a hearty veal Osso Buco.
The restaurant is now open from 08h00 Monday – Saturday, with a breakfast menu available and the Espresso bar provides the ideal platform for coffees on the run. Pizza’s available from 11am daily which are still made in a wood fire pizza oven which is now located at the end of the kitchen and no longer on the front of the restaurant. All ingredients are homemade including the pizza dough which is hand made by Davide Marolla, Luca’s brother-in-law, who, with Luca’s sister Carla, owns and runs the sister restaurant, Bella Italia in Derry Road, Vredehoek.
