The Core Business of the South African Abet Educators Union

The South African ABET Educators Union (SAAEU) was officially registered on 26th September 2007 by group of Free State Educators in Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) sector now called Adult Education and Training (AET) sector who were not happy about their condition of services in particular. The Union is affiliated to Federation of Union of South Africa (FEDUSA), which is the biggest non political federation in the country.

Company description
This union is integrally involved in initiatives to prevent disputes at public education sector more particularly in AET. This is achieved through the formation of sites, branches, regions and provincial structures.
The union also conducts various workshops to members to increase their awareness and understanding of sound labour relations procedures.
Disputes are resolved through active participation of the union in negotiations in all spheres of government. Members are also represented in labour disputes in the Education Labour Relation Council (ELRC), and Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC) and in Labour Court.
SAAEU is based on the following core principles:
• Worker control of the union; • Non-racialism; • Worker leadership; • Democratic decision making through mandates and report backs; • Worker solidarity: An injury to one is an injury to all!

• To strive for good working relations between the employer and the employees
