SmartLabs was founded in 2008 when a father and son entrepreneur duo recognised a need in the South African schooling system for educational software. We soon realised that the need stretched well beyond software when we realised that most schools don’t have the infrastructure to properly teach science and computer studies. Since then, we have become one of the leading school laboratory equipment suppliers in sub-Saharan Africa.We decided to address this need and in 2009 the Science Cart was born. This Cart is like a mobile laboratory filled with everything a science teacher could need. It is much more cost-effective than any traditional method of constructing a laboratory in a school and thus saves money, time and effort on the part of the school administration.

SmartLabs is a company that caters to the needs of its clients. We recognise and address needs that schools have, instead of product pushing. Education comes first and we thus provide schools with practical, cost-effective solutions that enable teachers to teach more efficiently and engage students by showing them demonstrations, instead of just reading from textbooks.
Our Vision
We aim to see science and IT education in sub-Saharan Africa be transformed and made more accessible to rural and less fortunate communities, as well as making teaching more convenient for teachers of related subjects. While we have grown immensely in the past few years and aim to keep growing, we strive to keep the needs of our clients at the core of everything we do and to never lose sight of our original, student-centric approach.
