Company description
One of the fundamental problems with concrete is that it tends to crack due to the reduction in volume caused by plastic and drying shrinkage. Plastic shrinkage occurs within the first hours of placing, while drying shrinkage starts after the concrete has set. If the tensile stress induced by shrinkage exceeds the tensile strength of the concrete, cracking will occur which eventually will propagate into macrocracks, resulting in weakness in concrete and leading to fracture under external loading.
Oxyfibre, oxymodified multilayer fibres are used for secondary reinforcement of concrete. Oxymodification is a process of atom exchange on the polymer surface whereby hydrogen atoms are permanently replaced by oxygen and fluorine atoms.
The fibres are oxymodified to increase surface wettability. This process ensures excellent fibre dispersion during mixing and placing, enhances interfacial bonding between fibre and cementitious matrix and prevents the balling of fibres. Oxyfibre arrest the propagation of macro-cracks due to the dramatic reduction in the length and width of initial cracks. With the addition of these fibres, the cause of weakness is removed, making concrete a reliable and durable material with its optimal intrinsic properties intact.
ADVANTAGES OF OXYFIBRE
Cost effective and superior alternative to crack control applied steel mesh
Inhibits plastic and drying shrinkage cracking
By adding Oxyfibre to concrete, crack widths and lengths are reduced. Test results indicate that the crack control capacity of Oxyfibre is far more effective that steel mesh
Increase the impact resistance of concrete
Concrete reinforced with Oxyfibre shows significantly improved impact resistance and therefore has the ability to absorb more energy when compared with plain concrete. The result is greater tolerance to fracture and failure due to heavy impact loads.
