ELITE DEFENCE ACADEMY is South Africa's premier self-defence training organisation, specialising in Israeli Krav Maga.

WHAT MAKES KRAV MAGA SO DIFFERENT to other martial arts is the fact that ANYONE can learn it quickly and use it successfully. Krav Maga is the preferred combat system for the Israeli Defence Force, Special Forces units around the world, police SWAT teams, the FBI, the British Royal Marines… and they all acknowledge that this is something totally unique and incredibly effective.

EVEN COMPLETELY UNTRAINED PEOPLE CAN LEARN IT, and many of the techniques take ONLY MINUTES to learn and are INSTANTLY EFFECTIVE. These techniques are not just for trained fighters, but can be used successfully by a smaller woman to effectively disable a larger, stronger assailant.

Most people don’t realize that many “traditional” martial arts techniques DON’T WORK in a real self defence situation… Firstly, adrenaline SHUTS YOU DOWN- you won’t be able to use any fine motor skills- and secondly, a lot of the techniques taught in Karate, Kung Fu etc are OUTDATED.
Some of the traditional martial arts are effective in certain ways, but they have critical weak points. With respect, a black belt in Karate etc is not necessarily going to help you if you’re caught in a choke hold with a gun to your head. Some of the “crossover” or modern martial arts, like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, have proven to be almost unbeatable in actual fights, and are exceptionally good, but even practitioners of BJJ or MMA have weak points when it comes to guns and knives.
