Description

Wolf's Crag farm was named by the early British settlers who mistakenly thought the numerous hyenas in the area were a species of the wolf with which they were more familiar.

The original stone walled farm house was built circa 1844, and, during South Africa's ostrich boom about a century ago, extensive stone walls were built on the farm to protect the flightless birds from marauding hyena.

Situated in the Southwell district with its rolling hills and beautiful, deep valleys, Wolfs Crag has been in the Elliott family since 1944. Game was introduced onto the farm about 25 years ago. Close to the coast, 15 miles from Port Alfred and 22 miles from Grahamstown, Wolfs Crag enjoys good rains which fall mainly in summer. Temperatures during the hunting season are mild, ranging from a minimum of 7°C (44.60 Fahrenheit) to a maximum of 25°C (77.00 Fahrenheit).
The Eastern Cape is a true nature-lover's paradise, from the lush Tsitsikamma forests to the rugged splendour of the Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area, the southern slopes of the mighty Drakensberg and the wide-open spaces of the arid Great Karoo. Fringed by 800km of pristine coastline, it is also malaria-free. The Sunshine Coast enjoys balmy summers, moderate winters and warm waters. The Addo National Elephant Park is the most concentrated elephant reserve in Africa and boasts the "Big Six" (the big five plus Great White shark).
