Organic Spaces is both a service and product entity dealing in:
Capacity development for emerging organic farmers
Erection of live organic fences to deter livestock from organic farms
Mobilisation of international markets for South African produced organic products from virgin land
Introduction of small scale farmers to Renewable Energy projects and linking all small scale organic farmers in the district to participate in a programme of One-Municipality-One-Product (OMOP) Organic Programme.
Once registered in the programme the farmers receive capacity development in the principles of organic farming and extended programme of Renewable Energy.
Farmers are assisted in mobilisation of relevant domestic and international markets for their products.
In the third phase of capacity development they are trained in Business Development and Farm Management
Business Models adopted in the programme are implemented within a CPPP (Community Public Private Partnership) structure. The public sector has the oversight role and act in an advocacy role to protect communities from unjust behaviour from the private sector. Most rural communities are illiterate, hence the government role is essential and crucial. Mid-term and long term reports are compiled and presented to local government from private sector partners as means of progress monitoring and evaluation.
Communities are registered to participate for a minimum period of five years in the KZN OMOP Organic Programme. Voluntary renewal towards the end of initial registration is encouraged so that farmers are able to implement advanced participation since a lot of experience will have been gained by then. All lessons learned are noted and used to improve programme participation. Organic Spaces reserve the right to the use of their learning materials which are developed in vernacular and made accessible to all farmers registered to participate in the KZN OMOP Programme.
